“Opah” World’s First Warm Blooded Fish

World’s First Warm Blooded Fish found in deep ocean. Researchers from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has discovered a big fish that lives deep in the Pacific Ocean with warm blood. The opah fish is roughly the size of a large automobile tire. Which dwells hundreds of feet beneath the surface in chilly, dimly lit waters. Opah are found in waters off the US, Australia and several other countries. The opah fish they are at some point forced to return to the surface to warm up.

The opah fish generates heat by constantly flapping its fins and has developed an internal “heat exchange” system within its gills to conserve the warmth. Warm blood that leaves the opah’s body core helps heat cold blood returning from the surface of the gills where it absorbs oxygen, maintaining an average body.  temperature of about 4C to 5C.

Opah First Warm-Blooded Fish :

Fish are generally classed among cold-blooded animals, known as ectotherms. Scientist have discovered opah’s unusual internal system after analysing samples of gill tissue from fish. It swims faster, reacts more quickly and sees more sharply than the other marine life. This opah dwell 50m to 400m beneath the surface of the ocean.

Fish dwelling at such depths typically are slow and sluggish, ambushing rather than pursuing prey. But Opah is different from other fish. Opah spends most of its time in deep places of the ocean. Beause of the distint feature of warm blood it has associated with a quick-moving, active predator, such as a large heart, lots of muscle and big eyes.

Characteristics made the opah “a curiosity” to all. Opah is a rusty reddish color, has white spots and bright red fins. It weighs up to 200 pounds (90 kg) and is about the size of a car tire, with an oval body shape. Found in oceans worldwide, it spends most of its time at depths of 165-1,300 feet (50-400 meters), hunting fish and squid.
